When Silence Taught me to Listen

A few years ago, a close friend went through a difficult time and called me late at night.

I rushed to offer advice, thinking I was helping, but she gently said, “I just need you to listen.”

That moment stopped me. I realized I’d been so eager to fix things that I hadn’t truly heard her.

Since then, I’ve learned that silence—just being present and letting someone speak—can be the greatest gift.

Sometimes the best response isn’t words at all, but quiet understanding.
